Just as a little follow up to that thought (from the wonderful What the Duck cartoons).

If the photo is carefully taken that might be the case, but not always so. Sometimes a subject needs 1015 words. Anyway, don't take too much notice of old sayings. They also say that the camera never lies, or did before the advent of digital photography revealed that to be the biggest lie of all. That one wasn't even true in the days of Daguerre.

Yes, with Photoshop a camera can lie.

John, Slim, I wasnt picking on your posts, just used Johns as an example of one thing that can happen when you post a group of pictures. And Sam, I was just throwing a thought out there about multiple photo postings. I dont have an answer, but I share the frustration expressed here. And I am taking into consideration the shared thoughts when I post photos.
One frustration I have is the way the software gets all wonky when you try to create and edit larger posts.
Oh and one thing that hasnt been brought up yet, people who post one sentence technical questions as blog posts.......
Whaaaaa........
Rick Martin had a very informative post of his first build a little over a year ago (see http://www.cigarboxnation.com/forum/topics/1st-build-and-how-i-did-...)
At the time I made this comment:
"A very nice build. What I really appreciate are the detailed notes of what all the bits and pieces are. Many photographs posted to this site have no information at all to go with them. We are all here to learn from others so all info helps. What I really dislike is when someone posts a picture of an empty cigar box with no title or notes - just a box. Many of us have already got a good stockpile of those for ourselves so we are not interested in seeing another cigar box unless some one wants to tell us something about it or request advice on how it could be used. But just a photo of a box ???
So thankyou for your very clear photographs and information."
Things haven't changed and I would support John Maw's original post. The odd photo of your favourite dog or girlfriend (or both!!) might be OK, and bragging about your latest build is entirely appropriate, but let's aim at providing information for others. Cheers, John D
Hi Bob Harrison.
I like your box photo. Can I use it in my CBN group "Home Made Resonator Boxes 101"? Do you have any other photos on this build or that illustrate box building in general?

Rats! I had a lot more to say but some how it got truncated. Let me try this again...
With regard to the topic of this thread, I always add comments and tags to my photos, and many of them are used in my various discussions, especially in the two CBN groups that I manage. I usually shoot 30 or 40 shots of a build, but I weed out the ones that seem like duplicates and add no significant new information. So generally I have maybe 12 to 15 photos on any particular build. Also, my builds tend to focus on new techniques or designs and my photos reflect that. I think photos are good, but they become really great if they include comments, and discussions. I have often replied to a photo and never got a response, so you should also be prepared to spend some time to answer other peoples comments on your photos. So, bring on the photos, but please add comments and tags (for better Ning sorting).
Also, if you manage a CBN group (or other Ning group), you can utilize this tag feature of photos in you HTML code that you may add to your discussion group to display interesting links. For instance, in the "Home Made Resonator Boxes 101" group, I have a list of interesting links and one of the links allows you to view a list of photos of Reso-CBG. Here an example of that code
In the HTML code snippet above, notice the "?tag=reso" parameter in the HTTP address highlighted in yellow. This allows me to specify to Ning what photos I want listed... all the ones where the tag includes the word "reso". So, you could add some HTML to the discussion group you manage and create a list of links so users can more easily find photos of things they'd be most interested in seeing. This would also work for videos and probably other sortable file types. Also, your discussion group should come up with a set of tag words that they can use to get their photos included in the next automated search. Perhaps CBN should have a site-wide standardized list of tags as well. Just an idea. Feel free to use this idea and code in your discussion group's HTML.
