This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?
I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.
A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

Love the green on that box. I never saw that before.
Is the nut a type of metal?
The nut is a chunk of Corian countertop sample. Grabbed a few of those awhile back at a local home improvement store, can make 3-4 nuts out of each little square.
The Home Depot down the street from my house has tons of the free samples, I don’t think people actually know they’re free? :) Did you just score the box or did you get the glasses that came with it?
I have lost count of the number of guitar necks I have repaired over the years. These accidents have been caused by a number of reasons: people sit on them, drop them, the strap comes off, drunk trips over a guitar on stage, guitar falls off the stand. Oh, and don’t forget airline baggage handlers.
[Check out YouTube “United Breaks Guitars”
Well, I have two guitars on the bench with the same problem due to one of the above accidents, falling off a guitar stand.
But wait there is more…. the guitar stand in question holds 6 guitars and stands two meters high, and to make things worse the guitars on it were mine. Luckily other guitars on the rack were not damaged.
Photos show before and after repairs with the final tidying up still to be done.
I know what you mean taff, I say the same thing every time somebody calls me regarding yet another tragic Gibson incident :) I used to work in a guitar shop, where all the guitars were hanging on walls & double decker carousels, that’s where I learned that the best place for a guitar is in the case?
Haha BrianQ, Don’t get me started on Gibson necks. I have lost count of them too. In fact I built a special machine to enable the reinforcing of that weak area in the nut area, after repairing and before repainting.
Taff
In the case is the safest place. It has been my experience that is where they stay mostly. I play 'em more if they are hanging on the wall.
I am a studio-man, never known the road. But one day my boss invited me to play for a company meeting/banquet, which was across town. I figured, just throw the amp in the trunk and wrap the guitar in a towel and strap it with seat belts in the backseat. I drove like a Sunday driver too to get there. However, the guitar winded up getting deep dents and lacquer and paint scratched off in various places. Show went well and the condition of the guitar made my boss thought I had been gigging the entire island for the last 5 years. But man, I was angry. Invested in cases ever since.
BTW, StewMac got 30 to 50% off tonewood slabs right now. Lots of swamp ash for cheap and a couple Black Limbas.
Also my local Hone Depot got poplar planks for cheap now, used to be $12usd per foot, now it's $8. Even saw Red Grandis, which make a strong neck for $4usd per foot.
