24g, Shielded Dual Conductor wire mishap

So for my second build I thought I would try using shielded wire for the circuit (3way, Mini Hum, Piezo, 1V-1T) and accidentally bought a spool of dual conductor shielded (two wires within shield) instead of single. I was wondering if anyone knew if I could just strip and tin the two wires together to use, instead of just using one and leaving the other sitting in the housing? Would their be any benefits or issues with this? Also if I just use two Volume pots  and no switch would that get me the passive mix circuit? (Each volume controlling a single pickup)? Thanks for any help,

Yes to both questions, you can solder to two inner conductors together no problem, and use them a one conductor. You can use volume controls on each pickup and mix the pickups like that without having to use a switch. It might actually make it easier to get the sound you want..one less thing to fumble with!
