Sorry....Piezo Question

OK, I have my piezo and I have my 1/4 inch jack (3 prong).  What prong does the black go to and what prong does the red go to?  Also, do I need to wrap the wire to the prong (through the hole of the prong) or just solder it to the prong (NO wrapping of the wire)?  Do I need to sand the spots first before soldering?   I have been searching for an hour and can"t find my answer.  Yes, I am an IG-NANT bastard.  Help me!!!!

Polarity doesn't matter. On the jack one lead goes to the bottom prong and other goes to the middle prong. Tin your wire well and no need to sand the prongs. I do twist my wire through the holes before I solder just for the added security.

Hi Douglas,

For a piezo it doesn't make any difference which wire is wired to which prong it will work either way. For magnetic pickups the prong which makes contact with the tip of the jack plug is the hot (red) wire. If you wrap the wire around the prong and give it a twist it helps to hold the wire in place when you solder it and makes it alot easier. You don't need to sand the connection. The wires soldered to the piezo itself easily ping off with minimal force so I tend to stick a blob of glue of glue over these before I use them to stop this from happening.

Hey Naz perhaps it wasn't clear in my post but I was referring to a stereo jack. That is why I referred to the bottom and middle posts.

I didn't think you could run a piezo through a peddle. I know they don' t like much gain. Could it be as simple as running black to ground?
