Grounding the strings

While I wait for my mag pup to be delivered, I might as well ask another question. I am planning on installing a wooden bridge (although I can switch to a metal bridge). How would I ground the strings if I go with the wooden bridge? Thanks

You can ground them via the tailpiece - if you use a metal hinge for example you can run a ground to this, or if you are using the wooden through neck design you can add a metal plate on the underside that can act both as a grounding point to wire to and also stop the strings cutting into the wood.

On my brickhouse build i used a brass rod as the string ground, i drilled a small hole in the end stuck the ground wire in and soldered it. On this build i made a rosewood burl bridge with a bone tip plus a bone nut which sounds great with the mag. pickup...and my homemade rail type surround. Can`t beat having the tone of bone on an electric pickup !

I normally use a piece of bolt or some type of metal rod for the saddle so I drill a small hole in it and insert a wire through the bridge. Solder the wire in the hole in the saddle and it is concealed so you don't even know it's there.

You can just barely see the solder on the bottom end of the saddle bolt on this one, sometimes I will drill through and solder from both ends to get a good connection like on this git.
