complete novice here just starting out, ive a question for all of ye!

ive read that people convert alot of  regular guitar tabs to a 3 string cbg by dropping and substituting some chords! i know where to get chords for songs online for a regular 6 string guitar but how do i convert tabs to suit my 3 stringer?

ive zero music theory so can you explain as best you can, like explaining to a 2year old!lol

appreciate any feedback thanks!

I've uploaded a couple of videos. (That could be a mistake!!) See them on my page. (Actually, one has disappeared. Who knows how this stuff works.)

They're really just tests to see if I can get the stupid video software to work.

However, they illustrate what I've been looking for on CBN and elsewhere. What can be accomplished with

  • three strings
  • no frets or fretboard
  • no amp or effects pedals
  • no accompanying tracks or loops

I'm looking for the "hardcore" Foxfire Book-style origins of the 3-string slider--which may be pentatonic blues or Celtic lilt or Appalachian gospel or early Carter family. (I don't know if anyone really knows who was weird enough to do this first.)

I've heard a few online videos that are so great they scare me to death. Always looking for more. Lemme' hear your ideas.

Feedback appreciated,

TN

hey guys, now that i already got the ball rolling with Crazy Train is there anyone else up to the task of converting 6 string tabs to 3 string! only criteria must be classic rock!

ps extra points for those who upload vid of them playing it!! come on guys let the fun begin!!!

OK here's one I prepared earlier. Don't know if it qualifies as classic rock but it's certainly a classic.

It's pretty easy so if the TAB and the video don't match exactly I'm sure you'll figure it out.

P.S.

I thought it would be a good idea to compare this to the guitar tab that's out there and notice that most of it is in E so looks much the same as my open tuning tab. Possible not the best example in that case. An easy one to start with though.

thanks nice one to tackle, cant go wrong with the Beatles!

what program you use to do the sheet music? writing them out by hand sucks! i thing thats the first i seen for 3 string!

thanks again great vid your other vids are great too!

I use Sibelius, it's a monster though and not cheap. Does Tuxguitar do 3 string tab? I know that Progression for the ipad does, they may have a desktop version too.

Yes, Tuxguitar does three string tab.

have ipad so will check out progression! ill try get another rock classic up by the weekend!

Here's one that's fun and easy,  just the melody tabbed out for 1-5-8 tuning (Gdg, Dad, Ebe, etc.)

thats great thanks! what you use  to write out the tabs?

Tuxguitar

OK Scruggy. Let's see what you've learned so far. How would you play Come Together?

Here's the tab http://guitaralliance.com/2013/08/come-together-by-the-beatles/

Hint: the bottom string 10th fret is the root note so you'd play it in the open position on the bass string.

I know how to convert notes and chords from regular guitar to cbg 3 string tab! Not familiar with guitar tabs so I'll search for the chords of the song first and then convert to cbg! If you know what I mean! So converting guitar tab to cbg tab is hard for me unless I know the chords!
