Cutting Port Holes

ok so what's the best way to NOT screw up the lid when cutting port holes

You mean sound holes, not port holes. Clamping a board on the underside tight to the top, will keep the inside of the lid from shagging while you cut or drill through the top side. Using Forstner bits will insure a nice round cut hole.

I got a set of 5 or 6 hole saws (attach to a drill bit). Then you drill halfway through one side, then finish up from the other side.

I have had great success using a Forstner Bit Set and drill press. Clean holes every time with no taping (Tape is still a good Idea but I like to rush things....lol) But really they make nice holes

Make sure you are clear of the edges enough and the neck,(depending on how your neck makes its way thru the box).

the smaller the hole, the greater the bass.
A hole is not needed if you don't want one

I love the idea of fitting a cbg with port holes.... *adds to build list*

I use the lazy method of drilling half way from one side, then finishing from the other. A quick sand removes any ridges.

That wasn't the question. It does however help prevent scratching and damaging the lid. Its just a suggestion.
