I like using really old boxes, so with them comes old paper, corners and stamps and labels half worn through, along with whatever exposed wood and so forth.
Something has to be done if they are gonna be played. I've used poly but not a big fan of the result, it looks phony.
Is there a product that will soak into the paper and old wood and strengthen without piling up and getting all shiny?
Here's an example of something I'm about to tackle in the picture.
Thanks guys! -Danny

Here's what I did with a "relic" box. The tax stamp dates the box to 1901. I built it as a diddley bow and left the box as it was with no finish. I figure that it has earned it's rough edges. If you want to keep it "as is" put it on a shelf and don't use it. Otherwise, let it live the life it has had and like a true senior citizen show it's wrinkles proudly. I suppose you could spray a light coat of satin finish lacquer on it, but anything other than the original surface will look unnatural.
I like your style! Not sure for this one though this dude is a rocker and wants it to hold up.
Also really like your comforter, it's awesome.
Mine gets played and as time passes it will show more age. Having just turned 70 myself this year I have no problem with the aging process. It beats the hell out of the alternative.
Maybe some acrylic lacquer spray would work.
