Hey,anybody!! I just built a 4 string box. I'm going to put a single coil in it.
This is the first one I've made. Did'nt come out to bad. Anybody got any tips on tuneing?
I tried to tune in tenor guitar tuneing but, that E string just don't want to go up to A. It pops !
I'm tring to get use to playing 4 strings apose to 6. It's real cool. If Y'all got any tips please let me know. Thanks Rooster

Well, I've done a few 4-stringers now I've tuned to eBGD, gDAE, open G, gCEA (ukulele). All have their own unique signatures. What gauge strings are you using? I usually use .011, .016, .022, and .030/.032. I found that .009 was too light and would snap easily. Do what sounds good to you and post some pics of your build!
All my 4 stringers are tuned GDgB.
I use the ADGB strings the middle 4 of a set of 6.
I found it works best for me... it's all about what you get use to.
Experiment !!!
Hey Rooster, Check this video out it may help....

Hi rooster, I'm currently playing with open D tuning. Same as a 6 string but lose the two lowest strings. This leaves you with(from low to high) D, F#, A, D. Used the top four strings from a regular set. This gives a nice sweet tone as you get the three unwound strings and one wound. Lends itself to blues slide very well, but if you want a "grungier" sound then possibly try GDgb as below. This gives more access to power chord type playing (root and fifth)
Hope this helps
Alan.
I usually tune to b+G+D+G+ (lefty) using the middle four strings from a set of 6 Super Slinkys (9's), works for most songs for me though you could go a little lower, if your voice will suit it you could tune bGDG. (-:
Sorry it's took me so long to get back with y'all. Been busy. Thanks for all the info it's great and really helps alot!!
