The 12 Bar in Denmark Street and the whole regentrification of Denmark Street in Soho, London was the catalyst for this song.  Denmark Street is were the UK's song writing district in the Tin Pan Alley era was and continued with being steeped in music with venues, instrument shops, practice rooms and recording studios. The Pistols lived there, Elton John wrote Your Song there, The Kinks and The Stones recorded there.  Here's an article from when the redevelopment started.
