The Surprises "Jeremy Thorpe Is Innocent (We Know Who Did It)"

Back in the late 1970s I was in a punk band.."The Surprises. Back then I wasn't playing a cigar box guitar, but I was playing my own home made guitar..."The Flying Breadboard"

We released a home-grown record (on 7" vinyl, remember that?) and got it played in the celebrated John Peel Show.

The Surprises recorded and released the single 'Jeremy Thorpe Is Innocent (We Know Who Did It) in April 1979. The band were part of the vibrant Birmingham music scene of the late seventies that included; UB40, Dangerous Girls, The Privates, The Au Pairs, The Denizens, The Beat, and Dexys Midnight Runners.
Jeremy Thorpe Is Innocent (We Know Who Did It) is part of an EP (extended play) single that has been re-released on CD.

Oh dear CJ, there goes your knighthood!

Great stuff though - enough to make this old blues-rocker and prog-rocker want to get up and have a good pogo, and then gob on someone!

a nice little piece of social satire, the original 1979 record (Dead Dog DEAD 01) is currently valued at £35 in Record Collector, quite an achievement! (-;

I was leading a life of respectable married domesticity at the time, owned a house, 2 cars and still into Led Zeppelin, ELO and Yes - and dreaming of playing live in a Punk band! (-;
