I actually used the CB Gitty economy tuners.  I couldn't find any definitive information on how to install them, so I experimented on a piece of scrap wood and ultimately drilled a 1/4 inch hole, reamed a bit on top and bottom with a 3/8 spade bit, and the posts for the tuners are snug in the bit of 1/4 inch left in the middle, and the bushings fit snugly in the 3/8 hole on top.  I actually had to tap the bushings in a bit with a hammer, so they're nice and tight in there.

 

Only problem was the plans I followed didn't mention that the tuners would still sit too high on the headstock, so I had to install string guides AFTER I'd already strung it up.  Which was a pain, but thankfully it worked.

 

I'm planning on following each "basic" plan I find at least once, and then comparing all the different design features/flaws etc.

I went to my local woodworking shop after I'd done this one, and bought a Forstner bit for my power drill that's supposed to make a cleaner cut.  Haven't tried it yet, though, hole saws might be a better way to go.

Thanks for your feedback!  I'm still amazed at how good a cheap homemade instrument can sound.  And how much FUN they are to play!

Nice mellow tone and playing.  Slow blues.  Have you tried holes saws you put on your drill or drill press?  Under $15 for a set of 4.
