Thanks dg....I'm happier than a pig in a mud pit with my build. It does have mistakes and my action is a little high but it is still tweakable so I can clean it up some yet. But it is very playable and sounds nice....what more could I ask for?

Hi dg,
in answer to your query on the stand up bass, well, as you might expect - acoustically the instrument is quiet - but it was built to be amplified. To this end it sounds good. After 3 days the strings have about settled and a deep bass sound is obtained from the single disc piezo pick up.

dg -- Sorry it took this long to respond -- I just saw your question on my page! Anyway,
my banjo is tuned to an open C chord, i.e., GCGCE (from the top, the high 5th string). I think it's a pretty tuning which makes it easy to pick out melodies. Clawhammer-style players sometimes prefer GCGCD. "Standard” banjo tuning is GDGBD. Have fun with your banjo! -- Bear

by all means use it. glad you like it. I used 1x3 pine to make. just cut and glued it together. made the saw slots on my band saw to keep the cut square and thin.

Oh and no kidding. I did the same with a forstner bit recently. Painful as hell. Keep it covered and medicated.

Heh, if its in print here, it shouldn't be a 'trade secret'. We're a great bunch for sharing. Juju told me he got it from RailroadDon.

I do check out the pics as often as I can. I have had sooooo many great ideas and tips from just looking.

Cheers

Thank you dg for your comment. It took me some time to understand basic theory too and even more time to see how directly applicable it is to improving your playing. Take your time and absorb a lttle at a time. Eventually it will click. Enjoy.
