Update, our trip to Halifax in early April is unfortunately cancelled. So if you're still planning a trip to Cape Breton, give em a shout and we'll figure out a meet up, okay? Cheers.
Just missed ya in chat Wednesday afternoon. Yeah, no not likely coming to Hfx this week due to weather &schedule. But more likely in early April. Saw your comment, and of course can meet ya at the Esso if you're passing thru to Cape Breton. Can gimme a call (902) 872-2840
If your going to add a piezo pickup to your cgb lap dulci...cut a slot and use a rod piezo, they can be cut shorter. I would just add wings to either side of the slot, drop in the rod and add a bone saddle.
No experience with speakers for pickups, but have read numerous posts that suggest it can be done. Since it is small, placement seems simple. But too close to the sweet spot, and it may be too harsh. Too far from it and it may sound dampened.
This one I used a forsner bit to make spots for the two discs...but I have done same to a slat of wood (walnut or other hard wood) as a bridge, then place a saddle on top of that
I haven't put two piezos in two different locations (one at bridge & one at neck). When I use two disks, they go side by side right, either inside the piece of wood I use as a bridge, or inside the box right under to bridge location. I think I have a pic that shows what I mean.
Lucky guy, Mike, going to ECH to shop for goodies n bits. Gotta get there myself to have a look around and spend some $$.
I'm always on the lookout for strips n bits I can use for laminating, like 5 pc. bodies/headstocks, etc. in darker woods like walnut, since I use maple alot, the color contrast is nice.
Enjoy, and I'll look you up next time I'm coming to Halifax.
Just wanted to give a huge thanks for the Elmar pickup...and for the visit. It's great to meet another builder face to face and talk shop. Really impressed with your J. Daniels guitar. I look forward to getting together again, maybe next time I'm down in Halifax.
I'll be sure to put that pup to good use, and happy to return the favor, for sure.
Sorry for the delay. Holiday Madness. Thank you Mike for joining my group. Feel free to add to the discussions or ask questions. Please check out my instructional video CDs:

thanks for asking, John
I looked at the site...for Keith's...I saw the large wooden boxes...are those what you mean for amps?

Under the fretboard

Seems the neck is a fine place to put it

Also, always on the hunt for 1/4 inch stock for fretboards
