Thank you so much for the compliment! Don't be shy about sending one of your guitars to a service member, it will be greatly appreciated. "Basic" ones are the real CBG tradition anyway. Mine are over-built hybrids.
Thanks Mr. Toad. The strings were an A,D and wound G from an acoustic guitar set. Tuned G,D,G. Not sure of the exact guages but I think it was acoustic light which makes it a bit heavier than electric would be. I kinda like the sound of the wound high G which you don't often get on electric sets.
Mr. Toad , my name is Kenneth Peterson. I live aprox. 120 miles from you right in the middle of Spokane and Seattle.Quincy Wa. I am new at CBG Nation but have been singing and playing instruments all my life. What fun to to be hear and meet so many kind peaple of like mind about music.Looking forward to more communication with you and others ! Nice to meet ya!
Thanks for the positive feedback. I had a few problems when I put it together Saturday, but I am pretty satisfied with it. Let me know if you want to come over and see it. I also sent a picture and details to a popular Guitar blog and he posted it today. You can check it out at: http://guitarz.blogspot.com/2010/04/vikster-homemade-shortscale-bass.html
Hi Mr T - On the difference between the Radio Shack 273-073 and the 059 piezo question, I believe that the 073 is going to be louder and smoother. The number I quoted DEFINITELY works very well. There are lots of reviews on using it for musical instrument pickups and I have considerable personal experience with it. The 059 is quieter and although it may work it will not be as effective (best guess) I think I would exchange the 273=059 for the 273-073 since all the work ends up inside a CBG. If you decide to try the 059 I would be curious to hear how it worked out for you. Thanks for checking out my blog on how to do this - Bill
Yes it was. I thought it was you, but you were gone before I got a chance to say "hi"; I figured you in a hurry.
Zero frets are used instead of a normal slotted nut which means you have to something on the other side of the zero fret to keep the strings in position. You can use something with slots; I currently prefer to drill holes. In any case, the strings need to rest on the zero fret. Hope this is helpful. If you need more info, you can always call too.
Welcome aboard, Jim! You will find lots of helpful folks and information here on all things CBG (CBU, CBB, etc.) Feel free to poke around, ask questions, and post your stuff (photos, recordings, videos, etc.).

Sounds like a plan.

Here are two suggested string sets (My guess is you will have better success with the GDG tuning; either will work):
GDG tuned Wound 045, Wound 030, Steel 020 (2nd choice Wound 020)
DAD tuned Wound 030, Wound 019, Steel 014
