Love it! That fat string must sound awesome!

Have you ever tried zither pins for a tuner? They are easier to install and use than the nut and bolt, and are pretty cheap from CB Gitty. You drill a hole, hammer them in, then you wind the string and tune it using a Crescent wrench (or a specific tuning key, but I'm a minimalist).

BTW, acting as a prop for a Diddley is a great application for a treadmill.
