I found that I had a day away from work on Wednesday so I went to the Jolly Brewer in Lincoln for their open mic night.
It was a bit off putting at forst as the organising of the evening seemed a bit sketchy, but everything came together really well with lots of performers of all sorts of standards and styles.
I took my cigar box ukulele and played two slide blues numbers. Seemed to get a good reception although a friction tuner gave up the ghost just as I was tuning up.
Anyway, a good pub and a good atmosphere and well worth the effort.
I like your idea of a tricone. One of my future projects will be a biscuit tin guitar.
Thanks for the reply. If you find a decent open mic night, please let me know.

just got back from playing two numbers at a pub in Collingham. They organise an occasional open mic night. I like it because it's fun. Some places that have open mic sessions can be a bit organised and it's like being in a library.
Nice to hear that you are getting into resonators. I have (standard resonator guitars) a Monarch, a pair of Ozarks and a 1964 Dobro.
I think the next open mic is in two weeks from tonight, but I have to work that night, so the next time I shall be able to attend will be the 2nd December I think.
Does the band you are in have a website?
Speak! soon

I've often thought of being in touch with you, but I've never quite got around to it. Sorry.
I'd love to have you as a friend as I am trying to promote cigar box guitars wherever or whenever I can. I try to play at an open mic night now and again and also occasionally play a cigar box instrument in a local ukulele orchestra.
Just taken delivery of a few boxes from Tom Tom as home built boxes don't quite have the pizaz that a genuine box has.
The only other cigar boxer that I know is a chap from the above mentioned orchestra who is slowly putting one togethr with help from his class at school.
Anyway, thanks for the invite, great to have you as a friend.
Yellowbelly.
I notice you're left handed, same as me. Have you got any tips regarding tuition, I'm just getting started.
Cheers.
Frank.
I have started a CBN group entitled, "How to Play CBG" It is my hope and intention to encourage the "Wealth of Talent" here on the Nation to share their knowledge and skill to further the CBG movement. Please consider contributing an instructional "video" link to this group. If you are a viewer seeking instruction, please feel free to write. If you have any suggestions or know other players who you think may want to post instructional "video" links, please contact me. Thank you for your interest and support, Keni Lee
