Ever since our resident Teisco guru "the Anonymous Pick" began turning us on to these vintage sleepers, I have been wanting to get my hands on one. But I didn't want to find one "ready to play". Rather, I enjoy challenges. And these two old guitars fit the bill, for sure.
I found them on Ebay for $80 (not including shipping and import duties). Not bad.
The more interesting one is the extra short scale bass. It's listed scale length is 23.75" and has sent me on an endless search for information about this design. Strings that suit a shorter scale bass are available. But to be sure which is best, I will likely get a number of sets to see which gauges work best.
Anyway, I am waiting for them to arrive in the post. Then I will take measurements for the various "missing" hardware, and order those. Then the project will begin.
Depending on the outcome, I may keep them, or I might offer them to the highest bidder where I got them in the first place.

A pair of beauties. Love that bass! Have some fun Farmer. I've got a stack of the same to work on, should i live so long...
Hey Dave, we are the fortunate minority...entrusted to give life to these forgotten soldiers of music. Btw, I really dig your work. Cheers
think that bass is an "eb-100" .
i'm still coin tossing the 6er . ;-)
These short scale guitars are a blast to play!!!
Hey Farmer, Keep on giving life to the relics. They hold the thread to the past and future. Happy pickin....
That's one cool bass! I guess it would be best to put heavy strings on it to avoid the strings flopping around. Looks like it would be a blast to play.
The way the ground wire erupts in the center of the tailpiece area, it suggests a tremolo... but the footprint looks like the solid tail style that the bass has! At first I thought you were looking at one of the "H" shaped base plate tremolos like many of the old tulip guitars had, but when you blow it up, it looks like the same shadow as the bass tail piece. Here's a little TEISCO Surface Mount Tremolo Parade...
Question: Does the ground wire erupt the same way the six string does? If so, I think you're looking foe a solid tail to restore. Obviously you can do whatever you like with it. The trem in the lower right is brandy new! I found it on eBay too long ago to look up where it came from. There's a personal name and address on the mailer, but the seller didn't give that info in their listing. If they are still available, they'll pop up if you search eBay for "tiesco tremolo". It does come with a simple right angle whammy bar rod with an off white "knob" that got cropped out of the pic. It was VERY affordable, maybe $23? Don't quote me. %b EZ-PZ on eBay sells a retro of the one on the lower left for around $20 I think including S&H... It's been a couple years though.
Question For The Group:
In the picture above, of tremolos, the upper left looks like someone tried to mold a cover directly off an actual cover. Has anyone ever seen this style tremolo before? Has anyone seen a fiberglass cover molded before? Has anyone actually seen this exact molded cover before? I would love to know more about how it came about. It looks like it was made by molding the main portion of the cover. Then a flange was cut out from a flat thin sheet of cured fiberglass. Then the two were epoxied together. The mounting holes must have been drilled from the bottom, possibly using the original cover as a guide, and erupt in the extremely curvy surface of the filled inside corner of the flange. If the flat end of a rotary file bit was used like an end mill to file a flat area around the holes, they would be much more friendly to round or pan head screws. The reason I'm pointing all this out, is because this technique could be used to mold a sculpted cover that could include some incredible artwork... like skeletal or dragon themed objects, or whatever you can dream up! This would apply more to home made or customized instruments, and why not replace a badly rusted feature with a wild custom if it bolts on with no modifications to the instrument. Anyway, I didn't mean to hijack this thread. I can't wait to see the twins finished! BTW, if anyone DOES decide to play with fiberglass, try and do it outside WITH the best breather you can get your hands on. It doesn't have to be expensive, but simple dust masks WILL NOT DO! So there's that.
Kinda close. There IS a hole in the plate where a mounting post should be, so I'm thinking someone didn't want the knob or screw on the cover. Is that a new unit, Pick?I saw one like that on eBay once, but it was a real warrior!
that one may be a reop , but the originals usually came off teiscos branded as "kent " .
