Protecting a Paper covered CG

I found this great "Black Magic" CB but it's paper covered.. anyway to protect the paper from coming off? Lacquer the whole thing?

I have lacquered several paper covered boxes and it worked great. I've had real good luck with Valspar Brand High Gloss Lacquer from Lowes, but I'm sure any brand would work well. 2-3 light coats does a nice job. Good Luck!

Same as Tom. Try Deft brand spray clear gloss wood finish from Lowes.

And just what does said varnish and deft stuff to the sound qualities of our beloved CBG,s?

Funny thing lacquer, I put a coat on a beautiful retreat box, the one that has the logo stamped into the wood in silver, it caused the origional stain to run and pretty much obliterated the logo. I guess I really should have tested it on an inconspicious spot first.

Sound quality on these boxes is to the listener. Since the box wasn't designed to be 'high end' musical instruments, I would guess the effect would be negligible.

Absolutely. ALL, test the coating first! especially any alcohol or toluene based coatings. Does NASTY things to ink or paint.

I like lacquer. My goal is to do several boxes at a time so that when I ready to use them the lacquer has cured.
